William Jackson “Bill Jack” Rowe, aged 78, of Pikeville, Kentucky passed away unexpectedly May 28 at 11:07 pm at the University of Kentucky hospital. Born in Pike County, Kentucky on January 27, 1941, Bill Jack is preceded in death by his mother (Merry Glema Goff Rowe), father (Milder Champ Rowe), and sister (Mary Ann Reed).
He leaves behind a wife (Betty Sue Rowe), three sisters (Rosalie Rawlings (Rex) of Carlisle, Ky., Kathleen Kinsel (Dennis) of Paducah, Ky., Middy Veal (Ray) of Tampa, Fl, three children (William Jackson “Jack” Rowe (Mason) of Mobile, AL, Melissa Ann Rowe of Lexington, Ky., Robert Miles Rowe (Jen) of Springville, AL, and many nieces and nephews
Bill Jack graduated Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Industrial Arts and was a lifelong student, always learning, inventing, problem solving, and seeking to perfect a craft or hone his knowledge on a subject. He taught briefly at Bryan Station High School in Lexington, but missing his home, returned to Pikeville to work in the coal industry with his family, as well as running his own coal company and later a reclamation company. His work provided for his family, but he had many passions and interests including carpentry, fishing, and bee keeping. He was a master carpenter producing works of art, sourcing and milling his own lumber to make furniture for his family and friends. As a master apiarist, he was very active in the Pike County Bee Club and used his carpentry skills to construct all the components required for bee keeping. He had a lifelong love of fishing and he shared that passion with his family and friends at his house on Lake Weiss, Alabama
Bill Jack was a father figure, a mentor, and teacher to all those who were blessed to have crossed his path in this life. He will be deeply missed.
